The nation teeters on the brink of division, so what strategy will you employ? Fort Sumter: The Secession Crisis unfolds against the backdrop of the events culminating in the shelling of Fort Sumter and the onset of the American Civil War. Participants can embody either a Unionist or Secessionist figure, with each tasked with preserving the Union or steering it towards dissolution.

Players engage in an area control mechanic to position, shift, and eliminate political capital. The placement of political capital dictates control over the four critical crisis dimensions: Political Climate, Secession Tendency, Public Sentiment, and Military Resources. Following three rounds of gameplay, the climax revolves around a Final Crisis confrontation.
